For 1955, Chevrolet's full-size model received new styling that earned it the "Hot One" designation by enthusiasts. Unlike Ford and Plymouth, Chevrolet's styling was considered crisp and clean. Bel Airs came with features found on cars in the lower models ranges plus interior carpet, chrome headliner bands on hardtops, chrome spears on front fenders, stainless steel window moldings, and full wheel covers. Models were further distinguished by the Bel Air name script in gold lettering later in the year. For 1955 Chevrolets gained a V8 engine option. The new 265 cu in V8 featured a modern, overhead valve high compression, long stroke design that was so good that it remained in production in various forms, for many decades. The base V8 had a two-barrel carburetor and was rated at 162 hp, and the "Power Pack" option featured a four-barrel carburetor and other upgrades yielding 180 bhp. Later in the year, a "Super Power Pack" option added high-compression and a further 15 bhp. "Idiot" lights replaced gauges for the generator and oil pressure. Motor Trend magazine gave the Bel Air top marks for handling. Front legroom was 43.1". Brakes were 11" drums. This 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air comes finished in its original colors of Sea Mist Green with Neptune Green and green interior that looks great. This appears to be a nearly all original paint car that has never seen any kind of major body work. The paint does show some nicks and dings which is expected from age but overall the car looks very good. It appears that the front and rear chrome bumpers have been rechromed and both look great. Inside, the interior is in very good condition and appears to have had the carpets replaced as well as the front seat recovered. The rear seat appears to be original for the car as well as the door panels and headliner. The steering wheel is solid with no cracking. Under the hood, the motor appears to be original for the car and is the 265 Cu In V8 attached to a Powerglide transmission. There has been a new master cylinder installed for the power brakes. The engine compartment is very clean and original with no damage. The original steel wheels are covered with correct hubcaps that look great. Wheels are wrapped with newer bias ply white wall tires that have good tread life left on them. VIN number is VC55S149680 and the mileage shows 64,237 which may be original for the car but we have no documentation to prove this.
