Few cars are more versatile than the shoebox Chevys, and as this brilliant red 1955 Bel Air hardtop proves, they can be fast as well as comfortable with a style thats recognized around the world. The styling was so perfect in 1955, the best customs dont try to change much. This car retains all its original trim, which on the Bel Air models was considerable. The bright red paint is definitely a product of 21st century technology, delivering a shine that even the finest cars in 1955 couldnt match. You can see from the photos that the panels are super straight, and judging from the undercarriage, this has never been a rusty car. Add in restored brightwork and trim, and this is a seriously nice car. Inside, the custom interior replaces sticky 50s vinyl with luxurious gray fabric that was stitched together in a period-appropriate pattern. Those are the original seats, but with fresh foam underneath theyre all-day comfortable. Matching door panels with embroidered Belair stitching continue the vintage vibe, and thick carpets give the interior an upscale feel and help control noise and heat. The original dash has been restored and painted to match the body, with beautiful bright trim that looks like a million bucks. A column-mounted tach is a traditional racers touch that looks right at home in the Bel Air, as does the Hurst shifter for the 4-speed underneath. Like the bodywork, other than the late-model Chevrolet steering wheel and the AM-FM-cassette stereo in the dash, the builder let the original design do most of the talking. The result is a fabulous passenger compartment that shows well and wears like iron. The biggest engine you could get in 1955 was a 265 cubic inch V8, but under the hood of this Bel Air today lives a rumbling 454 cubic inch big block. Looking very OEM with its bright Chevy Orange paint, its a neat fit in the Bel Airs engine bay with no cutting or modifications needed. A few chrome bits dress the place up, including Edelbrock valve covers and air filter, the master cylinder lid, and the accessory brackets. Fuel delivery is thanks to a Holley 4-barrel, and the exhaust is managed by a set of ceramic-coated long tube headers dumping into a relatively quiet dual exhaust system. Underneath theres a 4-speed manual spinning the original rear full of 3.08 gears, power disc brakes, and air shocks out back. The entire undercarriage is solid with no signs of structural damage or rust, although it hasnt been detailed for show. This 55 Chevy will never go out of style. With enough power to be entertaining on the street, and enough comfort to be able to drive cross-country, its an ideal combination of vintage looks and modern performance. Call today!
