As the middle child of the Tri-Five Chevys, we get fewer 1956 Bel Airs than 55s and 57s. Why this is, I cant say, but it does mean that when an ultra-nice 56 Bel Air convertible like this shows up, everyone takes notice. Tastefully upgraded with a rumbling small block and A-C, this stunning ragtop still looks and drives like Americas favorite collector car. This car has not had a frame-off restoration, which will give you a very good idea of how nice it truly is. It wears new paint, of course, and it accurately duplicates the original India Ivory over Onyx Black paint scheme it wore on the showroom floor in 1956. The sheetmetal is straight enough to wear black paint easily, with fit and finish that are worthy of this cars high-profile look and A-rated collectable status. The doors open and close the way only a solid, original cars door can, and since this body has never been off the frame, theres a distinct feeling to it that no restoration can duplicate. All the trim is original, as are the bumpers, which fully illustrates just how clean this car really is, because it still sparkles and shines in a way that will make you proud when you take it to shows. The two-tone interior was pulled and restored to factory specs during the repaint, and the results are impressive. The sparkling materials they used back then were a joyous tribute to the optimistic 50s and theyre accurately replicated inside this convertible, making it a great place to spend some time. Correct door panels echo the exterior styling with the swooping armrest inserts and the bright trim band that runs across the dash glitters like jewelry against the black instrument panel. A Vintage Air A-C system has been discreetly installed under the dash where it looks like it, too, comes from the 50s. Out of respect for the original design, the AM-FM-CD stereo lives in its own enclosure, with the factory AM radio in the dash. Theres also a brand new white convertible top with new top cylinders and pump, and our photo shoot was the first time it had ever been down. Power steering And brakes make driving a breeze, and the trunk is finished as original, with a reproduction rubber mat and a matching full-sized radial tire and jack assembly. To make this Bel Air the ultimate 50s cruiser, significant updates under the hood make it reliable, smooth, and powerful. The 350 cubic inch V8 wears Chevy Orange paint for a link to the past, along with a chrome dress-up kit that makes it a pleasure to pop the hood at shows. The entire front accessory drive is new, including the A-C compressor, modern power steering pump, and an alternator, as well as a fresh booster for the brakes. Its backed by a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission and a 10-bolt rear end, so you can take it cross-country without a second thought about getting there safely. A brand new dual exhaust system has the right rumble without being obnoxious, and you can see what a clean car this is just by glancing at the chassis photos. Four Rally wheels with spinners and 215-70-15 whitewall radials give it a slightly updated look without altering the OEM feel. Beautifully finished, with all the original parts that were already in excellent shape expertly preserved, this is a high-end Bel Air thats ready to travel anywhere. Call today!
