Model Year
1958

At its introduction for the 1958 model year, the Biscayne was available as a 2- or 4-door pillared sedan. A Biscayne station wagon was available from 1962 to 1968. The station wagon models used a different series of names than the other models from 1958 to 1961, and again from 1969 to 1972. The 2-door sedan was dropped after 1969, and consequently from 1970 to 1972 the only Biscayne model available was a 4-door sedan. In 1958, the Delray was priced below the Biscayne, but was discontinued the following year. In 1959, the car was redesigned. Biscayne's were produced primarily for the fleet market, though they were also available to the general public - particularly to those who wanted low-cost, no-frills transportation with the convenience, room and power of a full-size automobile. While most Biscayne's were sold with a six-cylinder engine through the late 1960s, the V8 engine became the more popular power plant by the early 1970s.1. Power steering and power brakes were made standard in 1970, while the Turbo Hydramatic transmission was standard on all cars ordered with a V8 engine starting midway through the 1971 model year. The '58 Biscayne you see here has been refinished in its original colors of Anniversary Gold over Honey Beige. The car has benefitted from an older restoration that still holds up extremely well today. With the correct 283 Cu In V8 under the hood connected to the automatic Powerglide transmission, the car is a joy to drive. This is believed to be a 49,000 ORIGINAL mile car but we have no documentation to back this up. However the car does look the part. The paint on the car is in very good condition and was professionally resprayed during the restoration. The front and rear bumpers appear as though they were rechromed during the restoration as well and retain a great shine and luster. The exterior of the car is loaded with options that include fender skirts, dual antennas and dual side mirrors. Inside, the interior has been refinished in its original colors and style and looks great. The carpet is still in new condition as is the correct bench seats. The dash has been repainted and the steering wheel is solid with no cracking. All gauges appear to be in good working order. Headliner, door panels and kick panels are all in great condition with no notable wear. Under the hood, the correct 283 Cu In V8 (F708D) is nicely detailed and is connected to the automatic Powerglide transmission. The engine compartment is extremely original and even retains the original chalk marks on the firewall. The trunk is solid and retains the correct spare and jack. The steel wheels are covered with correct hubcaps and newer bias ply tires that have good tread life. The underside is very original and very solid and shows NO undercoating. This means there's nothing to hide. The current mileage shows 49,849 and the VIN number is D58A191490.
