In Spring of 1962 Chevrolet really committed itself to the sporty image they had created for the Corvair by finally introducing a Convertible version and then offering a high performance 150 hp turbocharged "Spyder" option for Monza coupes and convertibles. This made the Corvair the first production automobile to come with a turbocharger as a factory option. The 1963 model year saw the optional availability of a long 3.08 gear for improved fuel economy, but the Corvair otherwise remained largely carryover with minor trim and engineering changes. Self adjusting brakes were new for 1963. The Monza line was really proving its worth. Of all the Corvairs sold in 1963 nearly 80% were Monzas. Of those 80%, convertibles accounted for only 20% of all the Monzas sold. The car you see here is a true 1963 Corvair Spyder Monza Turbo that was recently purchased out of a collection in Florida where it has been for many years. Finished in Ivy Green with a white top and matching interior, the car looks great and is loaded with everything you could want. Four speed, turbo, convertible top, what else do you need?! The paint on the car is finished in a metallic shade of Ivy Green that looks great. No notable imperfections to be found to the paint. Both front and rear bumpers appear to be original for the car and only show minor pitting. No major scratches or dings are found anywhere on the bumpers. The white convertible top looks new and is in great condition. No staining, rips or tears and it goes down with no issues. Inside, the dash has been painted to match the exterior of the car. The white vinyl seats look nearly new with no tears or staining. The black carpet appears to be new as well as the white door panels. There has been an aftermarket AM/FM stereo installed that works with no problems. All gauges work along with lights, blinkers, horn and wipers. In the rear, the flat 6 engine turbo charged engine runs great and starts with a turn of the key. Connected to the four speed manual transmission, the car is a blast to drive. The clutch is strong with no chattering or slipping. All four tires are in good condition and wrapped around steel wheels with Corvair wire hubcaps with spinners. The underside is very solid with no rot that we have seen. It shows that the car has been down in Florida for the majority of its life. VIN number is 30967W176281 and the current mileage shows 50,897. The car is being sold on a clean Florida title.
