There's no question that the popularity and values on 1964 Impalas have gone up, but that only means that now is the time to put one in your garage. And sitting right in the fat part of the affordability-versus-condition curve is this great SS hardtop, which is, indeed, a real code 14 V8 SS. Riverside Red was the number one choice among Impala buyers in 1964, and that really shouldn't be a surprise. If you're going to ante up for Chevy's top-of-the-line personal luxury coupe with a performance streak, you don't want to keep a low profile. Fortunately, this one has clearly lived an easy life and received a very nice restoration a number of years ago. The sheetmetal is still straight and crisp, with good gaps and clear attention to detail, and still shows well. All the correct SS trim is still intact and in great shape, including the engine-turned inserts on the sides and tail panel, as well as the all-important SS badges on the rear quarters. Accessories include the twin deck lid antennas and fender skirts, both of which look right on this sleek coupe. Someone also invested in getting the chrome in shape, as this SS offers bright bumpers, a straight grille, and all its original trim. All Impala SS models got a great-looking bucket seat interior with center console, and it's long on style as well as comfort. This one clearly got a bunch of new gear when it was restored, including seat covers, door panels, and carpets, all of which still look great. The stylish steering wheel with chrome accents remains quite nice and the simple console with its engine-turned panels and SS badging is a wonderful complement to the exterior badging. The wide instrument panel shows crisp markings on the gauges themselves, and there's an AM/FM/cassette stereo in the dash, replacing the tired old AM unit that was there for decades. Open the big trunk lid and you'll find a clean set of floors, a correct mat, and a full-sized spare tire, as well as a fire extinguisher, just in case. The engine is a period-correct but not numbers-matching 327 and has been rebuilt to 300 horsepower specs. It's quite nicely detailed, again indicative of a conscientious restorer who made sure all the little things were right. Check out the original air cleaner, reproduction decals on the valve covers, and even tower hose clamps, all of which give this Imp a very authentic-looking engine bay. The Chevy Orange paint still looks fresh and bright (and probably a lot nice than when it was new), and things like the inner fenders and firewall are the correct satin black with no signs of rust. The original PowerGlide is gone, replaced by a more reliable TH350 3-speed automatic, which still channels power to the original rear end. A new dual exhaust system sounds great, the floors are solid, and newer 225/75/14 whitewall radials have been fitted to the original wheels with correct hubcaps. So forget investments (although someone already made one in this car) and instead focus on the fun you could be having with this lovely Impala. Just give us a call today!
