1979 saw the crossed-flag emblems on the nose and fuel door revert to those seen on the '77 model. Three popular features introduced on the '78 pace car replicas made it into this year's production; The new bucket seats, the front and rear spoiler package, and the glass roof panels. The new lightweight "high back" seats were made standard equipment. The new seats had better side bolster, provided easier access to the rear storage area, and the seat pair resulted in a weight reduction of about 24 pounds. The bolt-on front and rear spoilers were offered as an option and nearly 7,000 cars were ordered so equipped. Functionally, the spoilers decreased drag by about 15% and increased fuel economy by about a half-mile per gallon. A bigger hit were the glass mirror-tint roof panels, now a regular option, with nearly 15,000 cars so fitted despite their costing $365. All T-tops were now wired into the standard anti-theft alarm system. Tungsten-halogen high-beam headlights became standard as did an AM-FM radio, and for the first time a cassette tape player could be added as a $234 option. Heavy duty shock absorbers could now be ordered without the full Gymkhana suspension. An auxiliary electric engine cooling fan was first installed, but only on L-82 equipped cars with air conditioning. Output for all engines increased due to new "open flow" mufflers. The dual-snorkel air intake introduced on L-82 cars the previous year was now fitted to all cars and the base engine now generated 195 hp. The optional L-82 engine increased to 225 hp. The 1979 Chevrolet Corvette you see here today is a 40,000 original mile example that comes loaded with options and is a true L-82 with numbers matching V8 (1108ZBB). The car comes with the optional front and rear spoilers, A/C, power steering, power brakes, power windows, power locks and AM/FM/CD player. The suspension has recently been rebuilt all around which included new bushings and shocks. Other improvements include new water pump, recored radiator, new brakes with stainless calipers, new plugs and new wires. All receipts for the work done are included with the purchase. The paint on the car is in very good overall condition but does show a few small nicks and dings. Nothing major, but they are there. The front spoiler shows no cracking and is in very good condition. There has been an aftermarket, 1 piece, tinted targa top installed made of lexon which makes for easy installation and removal. The body colored T-Tops are both in good condition and go on and off with ease. Inside, the original red leather looks great with no major wear to be found. The carpet, door panels and dash all look equally as nice with no major wear to be found. All gauges are in good working order as well as the AM/FM/CD player. The original AM/FM radio goes with the car and works with no problems, the owner just wanted something he could listen to CD's with. There have been new speakers installed. Under the hood, the original L-82 V8 runs great and is very clean. We have gone over the numbers and everything appears to be correct and numbers matching under the hood. Connected to the automatic transmission, the car drives great. The wheels are in good condition but the tires do show some wear. VIN number is 1Z8749S412191 and the car is being sold on a clean Missouri title showing that the current owner has had the car since 2006. Miles currently show 40,100 and said to be actual for the car.
