In 1978, Porsche introduced the new version of the 911, called the '911SC'. Porsche reintroduced the SC designation for the first time since the 356SC (as distinguished from the race engined 356 Carrera). There was no Carrera version of the 911SC. It featured a 3.0-liter engine with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection and a 5-speed 915 transmission. Per company tradition, the SC was unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September 1977 alongside a virtually unchanged 930. Essentially, it was the old Carrera 3.0 in everything but name: same basic specifications, appearance, and features. The American SC used a more efficient catalytic converter instead of thermal reactors as its main emissions-control device, which enhanced drivability. Other SC improvements included a stronger crank with larger bearings and the return of an aluminum crankcase. Outside were the Turbo Carrera's wider rear wheels and tires and flared fenders to cradle them. A new Sport Group package option added the well-known whale tail and front air dam. With the SC, the Porsche 911 could finally claim tractability as a virtue. In fact, Road & Track likened it to "a big V-8-powered Detroit car. There's lots of torque, so constant downshifting isn't necessary even in slow traffic. No Porsche owner is going to let the revs fall to 1000 rpm in 5th gear and then attempt to accelerate. But to prove a point, we did this with the SC and the engine accepted the treatment with never a judder of protest...just roll your foot off the clutch pedal and glide away." This '79 Porsche 911SC Targa comes finished in red with black leather and looks incredible. The paint on the car is new and finished in Guards Red. There are nearly no imperfections to the paint which is in fantastic condition. The front and rear bumpers are equally as nice with no significant rock chips. This is a targa top car which goes on and off with no problems. The targa top is the correct, collapsible targa that seals tight. Inside, the seat are nearly perfect with no notable wear. The fold down rear seats do have seatbelts which is rarely seen. The carpet is in good condition as are the door panels, dash and steering wheel. There steering wheel does show a minor bit of wear which is expected from a car with this age. The original AM/FM radio has been replaced with a new AM/FM/CD player that works with no problems. All gauges work as they should as well as the lights, blinkers, wipers and horn. Under the hood, the stock SC motor runs great and has just completed a 200 mile road trip to here in St. Louis with zero issues. The transmission shifts as it should with no grinding of the gears and the clutch is strong. The engine compartment is in very clean condition and has been very well kept. The car travels on correct Fuchs wheels wrapped with newer radial tires that are all in great condition showing minimal wear with plenty of tread life. This is an original A/C car, but the compressor has been removed at some time in the past. We currently don't have a compressor but the car could easily be set up again as everything else is there. Under the front hood, you will find a space saver spare as well as a small cigarette lighter compressor and full tool roll. This is all under the correct matting. The current mileage shows 102,480 and the VIN number is 9119211194.
