The 1981-83 Imperial was an attempt to reinvent the Imperial as a personal luxury car. This came about after Lee Iacocca took the helm at Chrysler, since he had been instrumental in creating the successful Lincoln Mark series for this market while he was at Ford in the late 1960s. Although the company was facing bankruptcy, Iacocca decided that "a new flagship would assure the public that Chrysler had a future. During the design of the car it was intended to be named Chrysler LaScala. However, when the car finally appeared, it was marketed simply as an Imperial, and the Chrysler name was not used. The new Imperial was a smaller, two-door only package, sharing its wheelbase chassis with the second generation Chrysler Cordoba and Dodge Mirada. Neither a convertible nor a 4-door version was available, though conversions were made of both by 3rd party companies. The Cordoba and Mirada models were designated the J-bodies, while the Imperial was a Y-body. The Imperial was equipped as standard in: power windows, seats, Electronic VFD dash (including odometer, speedometer, gear selection, gas calculations, and clock), electronic door lock, garage opener, air conditioning, electric adjustable seats, and other convenience features. Because of rich standard equipment list there were virtually no options, other than a cost-free choice of wheels (color coded 'snowflakes' could be deleted in favor of steel with 'wire wheel' hubcaps), upholstery choice (standard leather could be changed for cloth), sound systems choice, automatic speed control, 40-band CB radio, and a power moon roof (1981 only). The car you see here is a 42,505 original mile car that is all original with no restoration ever being done. The car has been in the same collection since 2009 where it was bought from the Florida owner. The car has spent most of its life in Florida. It comes with a clean Auto Check that shows the car has never had any accidents or issues. When the previous owner purchased the car in 2009, he went through and changed all of the fluids and gave the car a full tune up. There is a new computer in the car as well. The paint on the car is all original with no repaints and finished in Beige Crystal. There are only a few very minor nicks and dings to the exterior as expected from a 30 year old car. Both front and rear chrome bumpers are in great condition with no pitting or damage showing to either. Glass is good all around with no cracks or chips. Inside, the interior is nearly all original and looks great. The dash is in good condition with no cracking as is all of the wood trim. The only thing we have found that doesn't work in the car is the original AM/FM radio. The fur like carpet looks great with no major wear to be found. All power windows work with no problems as well as the electronic information center, lights, power seats, blinkers and horn. The A/C blows but is not ice cold and will need a charge. Under the hood, the 318 Cu In V8 runs great. The cars computer has been changed out to help the fuel injection system since these were notorious for having issues from new. The engine compartment is very clean and shows no signs of damage. In the trunk, there is a spare and jack along with original carpeting. VIN number is 2A3BY62J3CR112200 and the car is being sold on a clean Arizona title showing the miles were 42,160 at time of transfer in 2009. Miles currently show 42,505 and is said to be original for the car.
