The SS 454 pickup was the performance truck produced by Chevrolet from 1990 through 1993. This truck inspired the birth of the Ford Lightning in 1993. The SS 454 was a rather rare truck, as only 16,953 were produced in three years. Chevy never returned the SS 454 after its elimination, the closest Chevy produced was the SSR in the late 2000s. Drive Train The SS 454 was named this as it was powered by a 454-cubic inch, 7.4-liter engine, which produced 230 horsepower at 3,600 rpm and 385 foot-pounds of torque at 1,600 rpm. The engine had a bore (cylinder width) of 4.25 inches and a stroke (piston travel inside the cylinder) of 4 inches. The compression ratio was 7.9:1. The 1990 SS 454 only had one transmission option, a three-speed automatic. Interior The 1990 SS 454 had seating for two adults, one driver and one passenger. It had 40 inches of headroom, 41.7 inches of legroom and 66 inches of shoulder room. Exterior The SS 454, in 1990, was 194.1 inches long, 76.8 inches wide and 70.4 inches high. It had a 117.5 wheelbase and a curb weight -- empty weight -- of 4,500 lbs.
