The first car sold in America under the Kia name was the Sephia compact sedan, beginning in 1994. However, the first Kia sold in the U.S. was actually the Ford Festiva, which Kia built for Ford from 1987 to 1992. Since its first entry into the U.S. market, Kia has gone from selling only 12,163 vehicles to more than 160,000 vehicles in 2000. In July of 2001, Kia introduced its seventh model for the U.S., the Sedona. This is Kia's first venture into the popular minivan segment
