The XJ sedan is Jaguars best-selling car. All of the XJ sedans are descendants of the classic S-type Jaguars of the late 50s and early 60s, with the current generation of cars introduced in late 1995. Fords acquisition of Jaguar several years ago has benefited Jaguar buyers by providing increased quality and reliability; and the companys bottom line has benefited from Fords manufacturing and cost-accounting expertise. In 1998 the XJ6 was renamed to the XJ8 to reflect the upgrade to the AJ-V8 engine found in the XK8 coupe and convertible, which replaced the standard in-line-6 cylinder engine.
