After building the Sidekick for almost a decade, Suzuki retired the mini SUV to make room for the all-new Vitara in 1999. Featuring a new body and chassis, Vitara offers two 4-cylinder engines, as well as the Grand Vitara, the first Suzuki sold in North America powered by a 6-cylinder engine. Like its predecessor, the basic Vitara is available as a two-door soft-top or a four-door hardtop, while the premium Grand Vitara is available only as wide-track 4-door model.
