The 2004 WRX STi is considered to be the lightest (3263 lbs, official brochure and tested by Car & Driver Magazine) and rawest among 2004-2009 models. The car was rated at 300bhp and 300 lbs-ft torque, although many feel it was under-rated on purpose. What made the car so special to most is the level of performance offered for the dollars, especially in a car that still has a back seat and a big trunk. This 2004 is among the cleanest and best kept you are likely to find. It is a local GA car which had only one owner for 7 and ½ years who obsessively serviced the car at the dealership every bit of the way, never late or missing a service! When ordered, all the important option boxes were checked: the Turbo Boost Gauge as well as the Popular Equipment Group which included several other critical monitoring devices. The car was subsequently upgraded with similar thoughtfulness: larger sway bars were installed (stockers are available), a performance exhaust was added (ditto), and the car received a careful “ecutek” tuning at the hands of Alpharetta’s own experts, Top Speed. The 2004 came without a radio so a premium Pioneer head unit was installed with an I-Pod adapter and satellite radio added. Likewise, the essential STi add-on, a laser jammer/radar detector was installed! The Rota 6-spoke “Boost” wheels were mounted to further improve handling and appearance. And they really do set off the rare and exceptionally attractive Java Black Metallic paint, as does the Blue Escaine interior.
