Some pretty nifty Ford engineering makes this '06 Freestar a safe, stable, quiet, and comfortable ride. It's a solid people-hauler with quite a bit of versatility in terms of interior configuration. The 2006 Ford Freestar has been praised as the 'safest minivan on the market'. The Freestar's low-to-the-ground styling make it easy to enter and exit (as well as to customize with wheelchair ramps and lifts), and the roomy interior is great for people needing space for assistive devices. It also reaps the rewards of Ford's attention to interior design. It offers a step up from the Windstar in terms of a higher-quality look of the cabin accommodations. The Ford's interior has a bit of a European flair with chrome-trimmed gauges and a very clean, uncluttered overall look. Ford also revised the Freestar's option packages in '06 and made the formerly optional cruise control, CD player, tinted glass, roof rails and tire-pressure monitor standard equipment. In addition, the step-up SEL trim gets you a rear air conditioner, a power driver seat, foglamps, second-row bucket seats and a unique exterior appearance package. Fuel economy is a perfectly respectable 17 mpg city, 23 mpg highway; not too bad for such a roomy ride!
