The 2009 Ford Fusion gets stability control as an option this year, while traction control becomes standard on all V6 models. Other new standard equipment includes ambient lighting and 5-speed automatic on the SEL, and satellite radio on all except the base model. Ford Fusion standard features provide front-wheel drive and a 2.3L 4-cylinder engine that produces 160 hp and 156 lb-ft of torque with a 5-speed manual, and a 5-speed automatic is optional. Fuel economy with the automatic transmission is rated at 20 mpg city/28 mpg hwy and 23 mpg combined. A 3.0L V6 engine with 221 hp and 205 lb-ft is optional on the SE and SEL, and comes with a 6-speed automatic. With front-wheel drive, the Fusion V6 returns 18 mpg city/26 mpg hwy and 21 mpg combined, while all-wheel-drive reduces those numbers by 1 mpg. The 5-passenger mid-size Ford Fusion comes standard with safety features, such as antilock disc brakes, front-seat side airbags and side-curtain airbags.
