For 2010, the Sonata GLS comes equipped only with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, which the automaker dubs the Theta II. Hyundai no longer offers an optional V6 for the Sonata GLS. The four-cylinder powerplant produces 175 hp and 168 lb-ft of torque, and competently moves the sedan along, according to owners and reviewers. Equipped with continuously variable valve timing (CVVT) on both its intake and exhaust shafts, the four-cylinder manages fairly decent fuel economy of 22/32 mpg, though some drivers report highway numbers into the mid-30s. The four-cylinder links to a five-speed manual transmission, which comes standard, or an optional five-speed automatic. Such safety- and performance-oriented features as electronic stability control and traction control, as well as antilock brakes, also are included as standard equipment.Interior features for the 2010 Sonata GLS include cloth upholstery, front bucket seats, air conditioning, cruise control, and remote keyless entry. Hyundai also includes full power features for the GLS. Metal-grain interior accents add a sporty feel. An 80-watt, six-speaker AM/FM audio system with a CD player, an MP3 input jack, and an antenna with XM reception capability keep passengers entertained.
