Vehicle Highlights, , The 2012 Kia Sorento gains a Base trim level and a new, more-powerful 4-cylinder engine. Otherwise, it is largely unchanged after its model-year 2011 redesign. This SUV is a crossover that shares elements of its basic design with the Hyundai Santa Fe, produced by Kia's corporate parent. LX and sporty SX trim levels return. The EX GDI replaces the EX. Base and LX GDI trims are new for 2012. Base and LX uses a 175-horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder. A 191-horsepower version of this engine is standard on the LX GDI and EX GDI. Available on LX and EX and standard on the SX is a 276-horsepower 3.5-liter V6. Base and non-GDI LX models are front-wheel-drive. All other Sorentos offer front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard on the Base. All others use a 6-speed automatic. Maximum towing capacity is 3,500 pounds. Safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain-side airbags that cover all seating rows, and front-side airbags. All 4-cylinder models have standard 5-passenger seating. A 3rd-row bench seat that increases capacity to 7 is optional on 4-cylinder and LX V6 models; it comes standard on all other V6-equipped trims. Available features include rear-obstacle detection, leather upholstery, rearview camera, navigation system, panoramic sunroof, and heated steering wheel. Also available is Kia's UVO infotainment system, which includes voice control of cell phones and digital-music players.
