Vehicle Highlights, The 2012 Nissan Altima sees some minor trim changes. This midsize car comes in sedan and coupe body styles. Compared with the coupes, sedans ride on a longer wheelbase and are slightly longer overall. Four-cylinder and V6 engines are shared between body styles. A gas/electric Hybrid model is offered as a sedan. Altima 2.5 models come in Base and S trim levels. They have a 175-horsepower 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. V6 versions are called 3.5 SR and use a 270-horsepower 3.5-liter V6. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) that behaves much like an automatic is standard on all sedans and available on coupes. Coupes are also offered with a 6-speed manual., , Altima Hybrids are sold in California, Oregon, and certain northeastern states. Hybrids pair the 4-cylinder engine and CVT with a battery-powered electric motor for 198 horsepower. The Hybrid can run on one or both of its power sources depending on driving conditions and does not require plug-in charging. Safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain-side airbags, and front-side airbags. A navigation system is available. A rearview camera is offered on cars equipped with or without navigation. Also available are a wireless cell-phone link and keyless access/engine start. An SL Package for 2.5 S models includes leather upholstery and heated front seats.
